The goal of celebrating physical therapy is to educate the public about the benefits of physical therapy. Many people think of physical therapists in terms of how they can help someone recover from a serious injury, but their jobs are far more complex than that. Fitness and medical establishments like Peak Physical Therapy, P.C. celebrate physical therapy month with activities and events that open their doors to potential clients and get the word out about the benefits of PT. Learning how physical therapy can help you is the first step to leading a more fulfilling and active life.

Physical therapy is most often thought of as part of the recovery process following an injury. However, PT also helps people get through recovery following surgery. It can also be an important part of a treatment plan for arthritis, cancer, and heart disease patients. Any time a person wants to become more active, a physical therapist can help. Those with special medical concerns might not have the option to just get up and go. A physical therapist provides support and education based on the individual’s specific needs. Whether you are dealing with minor aches and pains that reduce your quality of life or you are facing a major medical hurdle, Peak Physical Therapy can provide the support you need to get moving again.

National Physical Therapy Month is a great time to take advantage of physical therapy programs in your area. If you have been wondering if PT can help you lead a better life, now is your chance to learn more. Most people know physical therapists help people learn to walk after an injury, but they do so much more, too. There are likely ways physical therapy can help you, but without exploring the field, you will never realize the benefits. This was why National Physical Therapy Month was created! It helps people just like you learn how PT can help them lead a more fulfilling life.

Take time this October to learn more about physical therapy. Visit one of the Peak Physical Therapy facilities and learn more about who is eligible for physical therapy. Get tips on choosing a physical therapist that suits your needs and learn the difference between physical therapy and other integrative and complementary therapies like massage and chiropractic care. Everyone knows someone who could benefit from some physical improvement. National Physical Therapy Month is your chance to help someone you love become active and feel better physically.

Back Pain Specialist

Back pain is something that many people suffer from at one time or another. Maybe you pulled something while working in the yard. Maybe you fell asleep in an awkward position, or your mattress is too hard. Maybe you got injured while playing your favorite sport. Whatever the reason, it can affect everything you do until the pain goes away. We'll talk to you and evaluate your condition from the very beginning, giving you a feel for what we can do for you and how we can help. We're not going to lie about your condition to try to get you to stay, nor are we going to recommend different types of therapy that would be wrong or ineffective for you. That also means lower back pain is more prevalent. Think of all the stooping and bending you do, not only in the yard but when you're out and about. Activity of all sorts just increases in the summer and that means injuries also occur more. Low back pain can happen on relatively mundane activities, or you can have pain just getting out of bed. It can come from a wide array of things, but the bottom line is that those who suffer from lower back pain want it gone fast so they can get back to doing the things they enjoy.

If this describes you, Peak Physical Therapy locations in Idaho and Colorado can help you out. Our experienced health care specialists can help you through your low back pain struggles and get you back to doing what you love in no time. Lower back pain can come in different varieties—from just a twinge when turning a certain way to a sharp pain just trying to sit up, and varying levels of pain in between—so it doesn't make sense to employ a "one size fits all" approach to treating it.

Our specialists have the treatments necessary to help you through your low back pain struggles. We'll evaluate the severity of your pain and construct a physical therapy plan that can help you regain your flexibility and reduce your pain. We treat each client individually, because each client has individual needs. All low back pain isn't the same, so why should the treatment be the same for everyone? Caring physical therapists will guide you along and make sure you're not putting yourself in more pain, so you'll be in good hands from the beginning of your treatment right through to the end.

As always, Peak Physical Therapy offers each new client an initial assessment free of charge. We don't believe in charging you just to assess where you're at in terms of flexibility and pain. In addition to offering free consultations, throughout the month of August we're also giving each person who comes in for a free consultation a gift—a free bottle of Biofreeze to help with aches and pains! We take care of you, even if you don't actually pursue any physical therapy with us. It's just our way of saying "here's to your health." Peak Physical Therapy cares about each client we work with, and we care about your low back pain too!

Salute to Freedom!

Peak Physical Therapy would like to thank all members of our armed services, past and present, who have fought and given their lives to grant us the freedoms that we all enjoy today. The simple pleasures of life that we have did not come free and should not be taken advantage of. Many times, we forget the sacrifice and dedication that have gone into the things we as Americans love. As our Soldiers and Military men continue to grant us our freedom in ways we can not imagine, our lives continue to be blessed- and for that, Peak Physical Therapy would like to say thank you.

Often times, it is the simple things in life that we take for granted- the freedom to vote, to choose our own leaders, to decide our careers, or even to simply leave our homes without risk of death or danger. In many instances, the phrase “you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone” can apply not only to our political and religious freedoms, but also our freedoms of enjoying a comfortable and enjoyable physical life. When the things we enjoy every day are taken away from us, we seem to realize that those aspects of life are much more influential and important than we may have once thought. Peak Physical Therapy can help get you back to those activities in life that you love the most!

Some of those aspects that we sometimes forget about include things such as being able to cook, clean, take a walk or bathe ourselves. When an injury occurs, there are undoubtedly activities in life that will be inhibited because of the lack of function that the injury will incur, most of which can be helped tremendously by physical therapy.

One instance that clearly illustrates this includes the nearly year-long recovery with physical therapy that many athletes need while allowing an ACL tear to fully heal, which prevents them from participating in the activities they love. Another example is the case of an elderly individual falling and fracturing a hip which often times leaves them unable to care for themselves and forces them to seek out the care of in-home physical therapy or occupational therapy or even an assisted living facility.

As we can see, simple daily activities and freedoms can be largely inhibited if we do not properly care for our physical health. Going hand-in-hand with these dangers, studies have shown that PREVENTATIVE CARE is often times more successful in treating injuries and is almost always less expensive. In the eyes of healthcare professionals and Americans alike- less pain, more freedom and cheaper healthcare is a WIN-WIN.

Call your local Peak Physical Therapy today to lower your healthcare costs and prevent injuries from becoming surgeries!

Is Arthritis slowing you down?

As your body ages, the cartilage and ligaments of the knee begin to progressively degenerate. This causes your body's " shock absorbers" to become ineffective or functionally non-existent. When this happens, the femur and the tibia ( thigh bone and shin bone) begin to rub and grind against each other as we walk, jog or simply go through our daily activities of living.

Staying active through exercise and physical activity greatly helps to strengthen and extend the life of your knees by providing muscular support, increasing blood supply and depositing proper nutrients to the bones and surrounding support structures of the knee.

For more information, visit us at http://peakphysicaltherapy.net

Knee Pain – How Physical Therapy Can Help

Many patients who undergo knee replacement surgery or other types of operations that affect the knee can experience frustration and pain when attempting to get back on their feet. Physical therapy is an extremely beneficial method for minimizing knee pain, and rehabilitation can help you build up your strength more quickly and get back to your normal life in a timely fashion. Here, we’ll describe how physical therapy works, as well as how it can help you reduce the amount of time you spend experiencing pain and difficulty of movement after surgery or injury.

Physical rehabilitation is a common treatment for patients that have suffered an injury to the knee, whether or not that injury requires surgery or other extensive treatments. Regardless of whether you have undergone major surgery such as knee replacement or suffered a relatively minor injury such as a sprain, undergoing some amount of physical therapy for the knee can help reduce the amount of knee pain you experience as well as the amount of time it takes you to recover. Physical therapy can take a number of different forms for knee injuries and surgery, depending on the nature of the treatment you received.

One common form of physical therapy for knee pain and injury is focused on helping build up muscle tissue and gauge how much weight the knee can support without pain or further damage. This is typically done using a pair of support bars on which the patient holds him or herself up using his or her arms. This allows the patient to put as much weight on the damaged knee as is possible without causing pain. In extreme cases, where even the smallest amount of weight causes significant pain, more gentle forms of rehabilitation can be used to help prepare the patient for practice walking.

If you have recently suffered an injury to the knee or undergone knee surgery, then physical rehabilitation is an excellent way to follow up your treatment. Peak Physical therapy specialists are adept at treating a number of different knee injuries, whether you simply need a little practice getting used to the way a replacement works, or if you want to reduce knee pain caused by normal walking. Talking to a physical rehabilitation therapist can help you determine a schedule for therapy that will have you fully recovered in the least amount of time possible.

Contact Peak Physical Therapy today for more information!

Shoulder Impingement- What is it?

When the tendons of your “Rotator Cuff” get pinched or squeezed between the head of the humerus (arm bone) and the acromion (end of your collar bone).
Symptoms:
• Possible “catching” sensation when the arm is lowered
• Generalized aching in the shoulders
• Sharp pain when the shoulder when reaching behind your back
• Pain when the arm is raised to the side of the body

What puts me at Risk?

Poor posture, overuse, too much lifting, muscle imbalances (weakness/tightness of certain muscles), injuries, falls.

Shoulder Impingement is a very common condition of the shoulder that many people suffer from. The classic symptoms are pain with lifting the arm to the side as well as behind the back. As this condition progresses, the motion and strength of the shoulder will worsen and you can begin to experience neck and elbow pain. The root cause of this condition will stem from poor shoulder mechanics (weakness/tightness) that promotes “compression” of the shoulder; however, the treatment of this via physical therapy is highly successful. If you are experiencing shoulder pain that increases when/if you raise your arm to shoulder height, contact Peak Physical Therapy for a FREE physical therapy consultation to see how they can help you.

If you are experiencing pain in your shoulder, ask yourself these questions:
• Is your shoulder stiff? Can you rotate your arm in all the normal positions?
• Does it feel like your shoulder could pop out or slide out of the socket?
• Do you lack the strength in your shoulder to carry out your daily activities?

If you answered "yes" to any one of these questions, you should consult an orthopaedic surgeon for help in determining the severity of the problem.

Instability
Sometimes, one of the shoulder joints moves or is forced out of its normal position. This condition is called instability, and can result in a dislocation of one of the joints in the shoulder. Individuals suffering from an instability problem will experience pain when raising their arm. They also may feel as if their shoulder is slipping out of place.

Impingement
Impingement is caused by excessive rubbing of the shoulder muscles against the top part of the shoulder blade, called the acromion.
Impingement problems can occur during activities that require excessive overhead arm motion. Medical care should be sought immediately for inflammation in the shoulder because it could eventually lead to a more serious injury.

Rotator Cuff Injuries
The rotator cuff is one of the most important components of the shoulder. It is comprised of a group of muscles and tendons that hold the bones of the shoulder joint together. The rotator cuff muscles provide individuals with the ability to lift their arm and reach overhead. When the rotator cuff is injured, people sometimes do not recover the full shoulder function needed to properly participate in an athletic activity.

Treatment of Shoulder Injuries
Early detection is the key to preventing serious shoulder injuries.

Shoulder Exercises
Often, an orthopaedic surgeon will prescribe a series of exercises aimed at strengthening the shoulder muscles.
Here are some easy shoulder exercises that you can do to strengthen your shoulder muscles and prevent injuries.

Basic shoulder strengthening
Attach elastic tubing to a doorknob at home. Gently pull the elastic tubing toward your body. Hold for a count of five. Repeat five times with each arm. Perform twice a day.

Wall push-ups
Stand facing a wall with your hands on the wall and your feet shoulder-width apart. Slowly perform a push-up. Repeat five times. Hold for a count of five. Perform twice a day.

Shoulder press-ups
Sit upright in a chair with armrest, with your feet touching the floor. Use your arms to slowly rise off the chair. Hold for a count of five. Repeat five times. Perform twice a day.

Other Treatment
Anti-inflammatory medication also may be prescribed to reduce pain and swelling.

Let Peak Physical Therapy Give you a helping hand!

Carpal Tunnel - What is it?

Carpal Tunnel is compression on the median nerve. While it may be part urban myth, many people that have aching feet find themselves completely miserable. Since you stand on your feet, walk, run and virtually use them to transport your body everywhere-you will want your feet to be healthy and happy at all times. Proper foot care is actually quite easy to do, and there are a few tips that everyone can do to ensure that their feet stay happy and healthy. A few reasons why foot pain may occur are disease, trimming toenails too short or wearing shoes that don't fit correctly.

Diseases that can affect the health of the feet include diabetes, nerve disorders, circulatory disorders and arthritis. All these medical conditions can cause blood to not flow correctly to their feet. Tips to assist blood flow to the feet and assist with foot care include putting your feet up above your heart when you are lying down, stretching ankles and feet after long periods of sitting, walking regularly, getting foot massages and taking warm foot soaks or Epsom baths. If you have a disease that causes you to be prone to poor foot circulation, remember to have a doctor or nurse check your feet for sores, lesions and ulcers on a regular basis.

One cause for foot pain is caused by cutting toe nails too short. Cutting toenails too short is not a proper foot care technique and can cause ingrown toenails, nail fungus and cuts. Ingrown toenails can be quite painful can cause infections that may need to be treated with antibiotics or even surgery. Nail fungus can be quite painful and unattractive. Topical and oral medication may need to be taken to get rid of the fungus. Finally, cutting a toenail too short may cause lesions, cuts and hangnails. These can hurt and can cause pain while walking or wearing shoes.

Sacrificing your feet for fashionable shoes is not only painful, but it may cause lifelong problems. Foot care requires you to make sure that your feet are taken care of and that feet do not have unneeded pressure put upon them. Wearing shoes that are too small will put pressure on the toes, soles and balls of the feet. This pressure can cause bunions, blisters and bone spurs. All of these conditions make walking and standing difficult. Shoes that are too large can cause blisters and arch problems. Buying shoes that fit is one of the easiest ways to take care of your feet and allow them to be happy throughout your life.

Contact Peak Physical Therapy today for more information on how physical therapy can help your foot pain!

The benefits of walking

Is it running …NO…cycling..NO…aerobics ..NO!
None of these activities can make the the claim that walking can. The stress of buying gifts, getting the holiday dinner just right, the holiday parties; there’s just so much going on within your own little world that it’s easy to forget about the lives of the less fortunate. Peak is determined not to forget the lives of the less fortunate. So, in the interest of bringing a bit of holiday cheer to everyone, Peak is adopting a family to help Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Ronald McDonald House Charities has a primary mission to improve the lives of children all over the world. Its vision states that you can change the life of a family by changing the lives of its children. Through its extensive humanitarian work and the help of generous donors and volunteers, it is making a difference in the lives of children worldwide, one child at a time. The non-profit organization has chapters all over, and each one is dedicated to helping families and children in their local communities.

While helping others is something that shouldn’t wait for the holiday season, the holiday season is the best time to illustrate how much helping out others really goes the extra mile, in its own small way. Adopting a family is one way to give a gift that keeps on giving year round, and it keeps in line with the joy of giving that typifies the holiday season. Even if you can’t adopt a family, giving a small charitable donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities is a small gift that you can feel good about.

Peak Physical Therapy would also like to let you know that if you stop by Peak Physical Therapy for an absolutely free assessment, you’ll receive a free Biofreeze as our gift to you. Peak Physical Therapy helps people get back on their feet year round, and adopting a family during the holidays is another way Peak Physical Therapy wants to help out. You can do your part too, and it doesn’t take much effort. All you have to do is make a small donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities. A key component of that answer is, “How well did you prepare?”…”How many additional deficits do you have (tightness, weakness, compensations, swelling) that could slow down your recovery”?; that is where “Prehabiliation” comes in.

Pre-habilitation is the process in which an individual receives physical therapy prior to their surgery so that they physically optimize the range of motion, strength, and function of a joint/muscle prior to receiving surgery. This can lead to a much faster recovery and a shorter time in physical therapy after surgery for many of the functional barriers that will need to be addressed during physical therapy will already have been addressed.

After surgery, there is additional pain and inflammation that makes it sometimes difficult to address some of a person’s functional needs; prior to surgery some of the limiting pain/inflammation isn’t present allowing these to be addressed. A physical therapist will not only assess the joint in question, but also the joints/muscles above and below the affected joint. If you are scheduled to have surgery, contact one of our physical therapists to find out if you would benefit from “Pre-habilitation”.

Contact Peak Physical Therapy today for your FREE ASSESSMENT today!

Peak Celebrates National Physical Therapy Month

Do you know someone who is in need of our physical therapy services? If you have already been slouching and bending over incorrectly for a long time, you may already be using physical therapy as a means to get rid of the habit as well as correct the problems you may now have as a result. It’s really amazing how many people have these types of problems, but considering the increased computer use of today’s modern world, it is not really all that surprising. Your spine is your backbone.

There is a reason for all the clichés surrounding the word backbone, because it really is so important to your ability to stand up and function normally! If you have poor posture, over time this will affect your back, and not in a good way. Your spine holds your weight throughout the day, keeping everything in place. If your posture puts undue pressure on your spine, you are more than likely going to find yourself in physical therapy for your back pain and postural issues. The nerves, bones, and disks in your spine all work together, and if not treated properly, will cause problems like pain and stiffness.

When you have inflammation in your spine, this leads to feelings of inability to move your back. It is the body’s natural response to the pressure you are putting on it. It is protecting itself from further damage. A physical therapist can help you to reverse the affects of poor posture when you are in the process of receiving physical therapy for your back problems. As your posture gets improved through the therapy, the lumbar curve you have experienced, which in turn caused inflammation in your spine, can be reduced and a normal curvature can be attained once again.

When you see a physical therapist, we will recommend exercises and stretches to help you prevent more back stresses and problems in the future. However, in physical therapy, you will also learn some tips on how to keep your posture strong. Relaxing your hips, shoulders, and ankles as well as breathing deeply are common. Your physical therapist can help you understand what correct posture feels like and how to adjust your posture to be solid. Soon, you’ll feel better and live a better life as a result.

Contact Peak Physical Therapy today for your FREE POSTURE ASSESSMENT!

Using Physical Therapy to Strengthen the Hip

According to the National Aging Council, 1 in 3 people over the age of 65 and 1 in 2 people over the age of 80 fall each year. In the world of senior citizens, falling is a leading cause of hip injury, including hip fractures. Frequent hip surgery is the only way to treat a hip fracture. Surgery often involves replacing the entire hip or repairing it by screwing bones back into place. Physical therapy can work to both strengthen the hip after an injury or surgery and to improve balance and coordination to avoid future falls. A physical therapist can also provide helpful tips for hip strengthening exercises seniors can perform at home, between visits.

The hip is comprised of a ball and socket joint and has a wide range of motion. If a patient is complaining of hip pain, some of the leading causes include arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis and hip fractures. Hip fractures are common among senior citizens with osteoporosis. Since falling is the leading cause of injury in seniors, the goal of physical therapy is to strengthen the hip and provide greater flexibility. This can lead to an improved gait. Further, exercises to strengthen the ankle, knee and hip can work to increase balance. Both benefits help reduce the risk of hip fracture by preventing falls and encouraging a stronger hip that is more resilient to injury incase of a fall.

When sedentary, posture is another important consideration when caring for a healing hip. Be sure to keep weight evenly distributed between both legs. Undue pressure on one leg can weaken that hip socket. Sitting in a partially reclined position can also eliminate excesses pressure on the injured hip. In an upright position, turning the leg out provides the best environment for a healing hip. Finally, sleep positioned on the back to alleviate hip pressure.

Through physical therapy, seniors will learn the importance of stretching before any exercise routine. Muscles that have had a chance to warm up are less likely to be strained while exercising, including those that support hip movement. Techniques that are learned can include weight-bearing exercises that focus on a high amount of repetitions with a low amount of weight. Exercise machines that reproduce the motion of cross-country skiing are also beneficial to rehabilitating hips. Leg raises are a great way to strengthen the hip joint. Work with a physical therapist to develop an individualized therapy plan to alleviate hip pain or rehabilitate an injured hip.

Peak Physical Therapy has physical therapy clinics located in :

Boise Idaho
Eagle Idaho
Emmett Idaho
Mountain Home Idaho
Middleton Idaho
Colorado Springs Colorado
Durango Colorado

Contact us today for your FREE ASSESSMENT! 1-888-465-7325

Understanding Arthritis

The word Arthritis literally means joint inflammation ( arth=joint; itis = inflammation). It refers to more than 100 different diseases or conditions that affect the joints and the tissues around the joints, such as muscles and tendons. Some forms of arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis or Lupus, also can affect other parts of the body, including the skin and internal organs. About 66 million ( or one in every three) Americans have arthritis or a related condition. People with Arthritis face many challenges as a result of the disease, but the good news is there are many ways to meet those challenges and lead a fulfilling life.

What can Exercise do for me?
Exercise is good for almost everyone. For many years it was thought that people with Arthritis should not exercise because it would damage their joints. Now doctors and therapists know that is not true. If you have Arthritis or a related condition exercise can help:

- Keep your joints flexible and independent
- Keep the muscles around your joints strong
- Prevent further deterioration of the bone and cartilage
- Improve your ability to do daily activities
- Improve your modd and fight off depression
- Improves your overall health and fitness by:
- giving you more energy
- helping you sleep better
- controlling your weight
- making your heart stronger
- decreasing depression
- improving your self - esteem and sense of well being

The Main Types of Exercises
People with Arthritis often benefit from a balanced exercise program including different types of exercise. Three main types of exercise should be included in your exercise program are range of motion, strengthening and endurance exercises.

Range of Motion Exercises
Range of motion exercises ( ROM) exercises reduce stiffness and help keep your joints flexible - something that can help you carry out your activities of daily living. The " range of motion" is the normal amount your joints can be moved in certain directions. These exercises are best done in a non weight bearing position such as lying on your couch or bed. If your joints are very painful and swollen, your range of motion maybe limited. Move them slowly through their full range of motion. Ensure that you place emphasis on achieving the end range of each joint. You may be able to compare this range to the joint on the other side if it is normal or does not have Arthritis.

You should try to do these exercises daily. Before beginning, perform a quick check of your joints, from head to toe, to determine which ones are stiff. Exercise the joints that are stiffest. Do at least one set of three to 10 repititions a day.

Strengthening Exercises
Isometric exercises and isotonic exercises are two different kinds of strengthening exercises. They are beneficial because they help maintain or increase muscle strength. Strong muscles help keep your joints stable and protected. Strengthening exercises must be carefully designed for people with Arthritis. Your physical therapist, occupational therapist and/or doctor can let you know what may be right for you. For increasing physical fitness, these types of exercises are generally done every other day. If a doctor or physical therapist recommends you to do theses exercises or ROM exercises, they may instruct you to perform them multiple times a day.

Isometric Exercises
In these exercises, you tighten your muscles but do not move your joints. These exercises allow you to build your muscles without moving painful joints. The illustration below shows an example of an Isometric Exercise.

This exercise strengthens the muscles that bend and straighten your knee. Sit in a straight-backed chair and cross your ankles. Your legs can almost be straight, or you can bend your knees as much as you like. Push forward with your back leg and press backward with your front leg. Exert pressure evenly so that your legs do not move. Hold this position and count out loud for 6 to 10 seconds. Relax. Then change leg positions and repeat.

Isotonic Exercises
In these exercises, you move your joints through a range of motion to strengthen muscles against some form of resistance. Resistance to motion can come from gravity, a resistance band, light barbell or cuff weight. ( You should begin slowly with little resistance, using no more than one or two pound weights.) Also, exercise in water can help strengthen muscles because water adds both assistance and resistance to your movements.

This exercise strengthens your thigh muscle. Sit in a chair with both feet on the floor and spread them slightly apart. Raise one foot until your leg is as straight as you can make it. Hold this position and count out loud for 6 to 10 seconds. Gently lower your foot to the floor. Relax. Repeat with your other leg. Do two sets of three to 10 repetitions for each leg.

Visit PeakPhysicalTherapy.net today for more information on how Physical Therapy can help you manage your Arthritis Pain!

Do you suffer from Knee Pain??

Let Peak Physical Therapy Rehabilitate Your Knee...

If you are suffering from severe knee pain, the best surgical option is to have a “total knee” surgery. Total knee surgery consists of having the entire knee joint replaced by an artificial one. Education is necessary because people who have had “total knee” surgery need to re-learn how to prevent knee injuries. Controlling the pain and the inflammation, and learning how to prevent more from occurring, is the first step to recovery.

The second phase focuses on restoring the full range of motion to the knee. Once you’ve learned the best ways to reduce the possibility of future knee injuries, the focus can shift to making the knee feel like its old self again.

Once the knee has been tested on its flexibility, the third phase is strengthening it to support day-to-day activity. This will take some time, so a gradual approach is used. If any knee pain results from strength training, the physical therapy process can always revert back to the second phase for a time before trying again.

Peak Physical Therapy custom builds each person’s physical therapy program, so no two programs are alike. The most important thing in this entire process is eliminating the pain so you “forget” that you have an artificial knee.

The fourth and final phase is reintegrating your new knee to day-to-day life. Much like the other parts of the program, Peak Physical Therapy customizes this phase to suit the needs of each client. Some people are more active than others, or do more bending than others. All of this is taken into consideration when constructing the fourth phase of the physical therapy program.

The objective is to reduce or eliminate knee pain while allowing each person to live an active life with their new knee. Upon completion of the program, your “total knee” surgery will be a success due to the completely personalized physical therapy service you receive at Peak Physical Therapy.

PeakPhysicalTherapy.net

Idaho & Colorado Physical Therapy Services

Physical Therapy has changed the lives of countless individuals worldwide by getting them back on their feet again. Sometimes physical traumas happen, pushing people to the point that they think they may never function again. You may have been pushed to that point yourself once. When you don’t want to go through something extreme like surgery, you can always look to Peak Physical Therapy to get your body back to working order. This takes time and patience, but in the end, you’ll be proud of yourself for doing everything on your own.

Physical Therapy retrains your body to operate just like it was meant to. There are a number of different kinds of injuries that may be treated. Dislocations and fractures are commonly straightened out by physical therapy, as are connective tissues issues. A number of bone and joint problems can be improved by way of physical therapy, and you can even have your neurological issues repaired in this way. It’s all a matter of baby steps, taking one day at a time to see a gradual improvement in your condition. Your body already has the ability to heal itself. You just need a physical therapist to help you do so.

People from any age group can benefit from physical therapy, from children to the elderly. Athletes frequently go through this process to improve injuries they get on the field. Even people who suffer from stress at work can benefit from this line of therapy. This is a natural process that can make you stronger, faster, and more alive than ever when it is all done. Physical Therapy varies from patient to patient, but you can see your progress each and every week. As long as you have a good team to help you out, there’s no reason to be hurt anymore.

If you’re in need of physical therapy in Idaho and Colorado, Peak Physical Therapy can help you. Well, a great number of Americans suffer from migraine headaches, it is a common tale. Many of these people over time begin to succumb to the migraines relentless attacks by modifying their lifestyles (doing less of what they enjoy) because of the pain or the fear of triggering another headache/migraine. Well, if this described you, then it is time for you to get your life back and rid yourself of this pain in the neck forever.

Symptoms:
* Headaches
* Upper back and neck tenderness
- Trigger points between the shoulder blades
- Trigger points in the muscles at the side of the neck
- Trigger points in the muscles at the base of the skull
- Trigger points in the muscles just to the side of the throat
* Headaches that occur after long periods of work
* Headaches that occur late in the day

What Causes Migraines?
Migraines and headaches can be caused by many different things, from poor working positions, poor eyesight, glare from the sun, poor diet, lack of sleep, etc. So if you have chronic headaches are great place to start is to get a physical from your physician to ensure that you are “healthy”. Many migraines; however, are “muscle tension” headaches meaning that the muscles of the upper back, neck and even scalp become overly tired and tight causing “tension” at the head/neck resulting in compression of the underlying nerves/blood vessels and straining the tendons that connect the muscles to the base of the skull…all of which can produce a whopping headache. Because over fatigue of the head/neck muscles can produce a headache, it is very common for sufferers to find that they get headaches later in the day or after increased activity. It has been proven very effective, that if you can reduce the stress/strain at the head/neck that migraines diminish if not completely resolve. So how is this done.

Handling Your Migraine:
If you are suffering from chronic muscle tension headaches/migraines, the first thing we have to physically consider is your “tolerance for activity”. When muscles get tired, they get tight….bottom line. That is any muscle anywhere. However, if that muscle is about your neck/head/shoulders then you are very prone to headaches. For when these muscles get overly tight, the impact the head; it is important to consider, that the average adult head weights 14 pounds. This 14 pound weight sits atop of our neck and shoulders which are commonly weak. That is like placing a big orange on a spring “slinky”. Imagine if you will if you held a 5 pound weight in your hand and then straightened out your arm. You would inevitably find that within 30 seconds that your shoulder would begin to fatigue and “burn” from the strain. Well…that is what is occurring at your neck; however, due to working postures it happens over an 8 hour day. So the need is to make sure that you can physically tolerate (or are properly conditioned) for the type of work you do, if not…some form of pain will result, be it a tendinitis, bursitis or a headache. Developing “tolerance for activity” involves a combination of stretching (to alleviate existing tightness) and low level strengthening (to help increase muscles endurance, giving you the ability to work longer without becoming fatigued).

Frequent Stretching:
Stretching throughout the day can help keep muscular tension down. Hold stretches 30 seconds giving the muscles time to respond and become more flexible. All stretches should be strong, but comfortable…don’t go to the point of discomfort.

Frequent Breaks:
As you are able, take frequent breaks. That can be a simple 30 seconds to 1 minute to get up and move around; giving the working muscles are small break so that they don’t get over fatigues.

Proper Set Up of Your Work Station:
Most of us work for 8+ hours a day. If your workstation is not properly set up it WILL CAUSE unnecessary stress on you. Having your computer screen, key board and chair height properly adjusted can greatly diminish head/neck stress that can contribute to migraines: DON’T SLOUCH, DON’T LEAN, DON’T OVER REACH.

Don’t squint:
If you are squinting at work, something needs to change: eyeglasses, a better lens prescription for your glasses, better lighting, a better workstation set up. Eye strain = headache.

Proper Hydration:
Make sure you drink plenty of water. Many people drink coffee or soda’s throughout the day. These are diuretics and are stimulants, meaning that they will dehydrate your tissues leading to tension and increased metabolism which can increase heart rate, blood pressure etc, making you more prone to headaches.

Peak Physical Therapy and Migraine Headaches:
Peak Physical Therapy can help by helping you in all the above areas, find out specifically where you need the most help, getting you feeling better sooner. Peak Physical Therapy Idaho & Colorado clinics we have seen, first-hand, how ankle pain can both be caused by injuries in other areas of the body as well as create problems in subsequent muscles, bones, and joints. The reason for this, of course, is due to the fact that we use our ankles in a myriad of ways throughout the day and because they affect the way we use the rest of our bodies as well. We see plenty of injuries due to overly rigorous fitness programs, but plenty of problems also arise due to day-to-day activities.

Because of the many different causes and repercussions of ankle pain, it is important to get an accurate physical therapy assessment of not only the source of problem, but also to gauge what movement patterns might be predisposing you to the injury in the first place. Fortunately, Peak Physical Therapy Idaho & Colorado offices employ a knowledgeable and experienced physical therapist staff well-versed in getting the proper diagnosis and then developing an effective treatment plan for both short-term and long-term wellness for your ankle and the rest of your body.

As it is virtually impossible to stay off your feet for any length of time, many people delay treatment for ankle pain and end up making the problem worse. This can put you out of commission for even longer down the road and, therefore, it is important to start a rehabilitation program as soon as possible. Peak Physical Therapy has clinics in Boise, Idaho, Eagle, Idaho, Emmett, Idaho, Mountain Home, Idaho and Middleton, Idaho. We also have clinics providing physical therapy services in Colorado Springs and Durango Colorado. This part of the body is used in so many activities and for so many functions that it is no wonder the majority of people will experience some type of shoulder discomfort at some point in their lives. As it is so crucial to our everyday movements, it is all the more important to get the pain taken care of so you can improve your quality of life as well as prevent any further and future injuries. Peak Physical Therapy takes a thorough assessment of your injury, develops a plan in order to take care of any current discomfort, and then helps you to avoid the same sort of injury down the line.

The first part of addressing shoulder pain lies in accurate assessment. It is important for a licensed physical therapist to do an examination in order to determine the source of the pain. Although direct injury to the shoulder would indicate where the pain is coming from, there can be trauma elsewhere in the body, such as in the neck, that can affect the shoulder joint and its surrounding muscles. Also, an injury to the shoulder itself can cause a chain reaction of pain in other places of the body. Therefore, it is important to get a proper assessment in order to then develop a course of treatment that will be most effective.

Once the cause of the shoulder pain has been determined, a physical therapist can then work to loosen the surrounding muscles. Oftentimes when we incur some sort of injury to the body, it is due to tight, overly-contracted muscles or else the trauma itself can cause muscles around the area to tense up in order to act as a splint to prevent further pain. However, although this protective measure can sometimes be helpful, more than not, it ends up causing even more pain in other areas of the body.

A physical therapist then works to strengthen any weak muscles in addition to re-educating the patient as to how to properly move the body so as to avoid future injuries. In addition to overly-contracted muscles, many of us also have many areas that are weak and over-stretched as well. This can make us prone to injury at the opposing muscles. Additionally, if we have avoided using certain parts of the body due to pain, they can lose strength, worsening the problem. Peak Physical Therapy addresses all aspects of shoulder pain so you can feel better faster.

Peak Physical Therapy has 9 physical therapy clinics throughout Idaho & Colorado.
Call us today for your FREE CONSULTATION!

Back pain still holding you back??? Especially due to our stressful and fast-paced lifestyles, many of us are not able to take the time to stretch and strengthen our backs properly. We often spend hours and hours slumped over at desks or driving in the car. Without proper ergonomics and adequate exercise, we are destined to experience back pain at some point in our lives. However, physical therapy can help us prevent and treat this all too common complaint.

Peak Physical Therapy provides physical therapists in several locations throughout the states of Idaho and Colorado. With so many convenient locations to choose from, getting quality physical therapy is easier than ever before. Many people wait until they are in absolute agony before gaining the assistance of a physical therapist. This causes unnecessary suffering and can lead to even worse back problems in the future. Instead of waiting until even more damage is done, you should seek treatment from a trained professional in order to help get you feeling better now and so that you can prevent any new problems from forming.

Back pain can not only make your day-to-day life uncomfortable, but it can prevent you from engaging in a variety of activities. This type of therapy is needed for various reasons such as after vehicle accidents, surgeries, sports injuries and falls. Physical therapy can also help someone finally get over the pain associated with older injuries and muscle issues as well. Many people put off much needed physical therapy assuming they will heal on their own or simply because they feel they don’t have time for scheduled therapy appointments. The problem with putting off therapy is that the pain will persist and can become worse.

Many people experience pains such as the common shoulder pain or knee pain and just let it go instead of trying to fix it. The older our bodies become little pains can start gradually and get worse over time. We mark them up to our busy lives, holding grandchildren the weekend before too much or on household chores. Reality is we can feel better and we don’t have to suffer through living day to day with these pains. Peak Physical Therapy will concentrate on the area of the pain and work on the issue that is causing it. You can check with your health care provider if you have questions regarding if physical therapy is right choice for you.

A common routine for physical therapy is for the patient to work with a physical therapist a few times a week and then on the other days they would do the at-home exercises given to them by the professional physical therapist. Over time patients will feel better and be glad they’ve gotten their bodies back in shape to live a more fulfilled physical life than ever expected. The advantage of physical therapy over other treatments is that it actually fixes the problem; it does not just cover up the pain. When people put physical therapy on hold, they are putting their life on hold. When someone needs therapy and does not receive it, their life can start to have physical restrictions.

Most everyone lives a busy life and it’s easy to put off things that take more time out of our life; however, it’s not smart to let pains in our body go. The underlying issue can become worse and take more time out of our lives by restricting physical activities. When our bodies lose physically active time they can become less healthy and even more inclined to other physical conditions.
